Alleyoop!

I'm going to Greece tomorrow for two weeks, a trip to spend time with my Dad, we haven't been on a proper vacation together in years. My main concern? How much knitting to bring? I don't wan't to get bored, but I don't want to carry TWO suitcases. I'm also tempted to bring the spindle and a bag of fibre, but that would just be crazy, right? Not sure how much I'll be able to post during the trip, but I'm going to keep our art in mind and be on the lookout for interesting Helenic knitting knowledge.

Here's what I've been doing:

Dyed 014
It's handspun, wire, moonstone, pearls, glass. For le shoppe.

Blatant Ploy Contest winner!!

I put everyone's name on a piece of paper, folded them into equal-sized squares, put 'em in a jar, shook 'em up, and picked one with my eyes closed! Next time I may use random number generator, it's probably faster.

The Winner for May: Laughingmuse, her blog is here. You won the pretty pearl stitch markers pictured in the sidebar!! If you'd like to email me your address (craftyandcoATgmailDOTcom), I will ship them asap.

June's contest prize: hmmmm... oh the possibilities. Maybe it'll be a handmade needle case, yeah! Sounds good.

I have been working on jewelry almost exclusively, so next post will be photo-heavy.

Works in progress

This is some of what I did today.

Blubeadwiremernl

It's on its way to being a necklace, including merino handspun, wire, glass beads, pearls and moonstones. Jewelry is one of the things I'd like to make available in my store, probably erratically as the pieces are time-intensive and am I the only one who gets cramps knitting with wire?

On a more personal note: even though I've been a recovered addict for three years now, there are big chunks of my life that are nowhere near where they could be. This year has been about fixing up these 'missing' parts of life, and this summer I'm only more determined to get it together. So this is my mission statement, made public in the hopes it'll encourage me to keep my word.
  1. Be in the present, stop worrying so much, don't dwell.
  2. Try, try try try, try try, keep trying, try every day, to create, to do, just try.
  3. Show up - be social, go to auditions, keep in touch, see family.
  4. Take care of myself and loved ones, do something healthy, like exercise. Cook more.
  5. I will practice piano every day, yes yes, for an hour. I will.
  6. Learn to skateboard - anyone around Toronto know where one could do such a thing?
Ok, I think that's ambitious enough for now. And now, in knitting news! I'm working on Mary Weaver's Mrs. Darcy cardi still. I'm worried it's gonna be too small, but if that's the case it'll make one of my nieces  beautiful gift. And I can't seem to stop making socks! I cast on the Vinnland socks by Becca Compton that was in the Anticraft zine with some yarn from the Black Lamb. I'm really feeling the urge now, with this warm weather, to make something light and swingy and flirty out of bamboo or cotton or silk. Summer gets me daydreaming.
